Paytm Money Demo Account

See how the Paytm Money demo account works for Indian traders - what you can practice, which tools are included, and how to graduate to live trades.

CFD outcomes depend on leverage as much as on the direction you pick.

Paytm Money Demo Account

Paytm Money does not run a standalone demo trading account the way offshore forex brokers do. What it offers instead is an educational layer plus a research and virtual-watchlist setup inside the app. A true simulated order book with fake money is not available here. Learning the interface, the charges, and the order types before funding anything is what the app supports.

What Counts As A Demo

A demo account is a practice login: virtual money, live market prices, no real risk. Orders are placed exactly like a real trader and the outcome is visible. Nothing is settled, nothing leaves the bank.

Paytm Money's model is different. As a SEBI-regulated domestic broker (registration SEBI INZ000240532, with NSE 90165 and BSE 6707 memberships), it deals in real exchange-traded products from the start. There is no separate simulated ledger. What is available is a research-first environment: watchlists, screeners, and a route into IPOs, mutual funds and ETFs, all before committing capital.

GOOD TO KNOW
A demo login and a real trading login are legally different things in India. A simulator is a teaching tool. A live account touches PAN, bank and KYC records.

How Indian Traders Actually Practice

A formal demo is not the only path. Small real amounts inside the app serve the same purpose. On Paytm Money that looks like this.

  • Open a Demat and trading account, complete KYC, and start with a tiny position size.
  • Use the watchlist and screeners to follow stocks for a few weeks before buying.
  • Place one intraday order on the smallest quantity that the exchange allows.
  • Compare the contract note against what the app showed.

The gap between simulated practice and real money is mostly emotional. On a simulator the price dipping two percent does not register. On a real position it does. That reaction is exactly what a good practice phase is supposed to teach you to handle.

The Fee Maths You Should Learn Early

This is where practice pays for itself. Paytm Money charges flat fees, and the difference between an intraday trade and a delivery trade is bigger than most beginners expect.

Order TypeFlat FeePercentage Option
DeliveryRs.202.5% (whichever is lower)
IntradayRs.200.05% (whichever is lower)
F&ORs.20 per orderNot applicable

Platform and AMC fees were removed in January 2025, which is a real saving on positions held for months rather than days. On a Rs.5,000 intraday trade, the percentage option charges Rs.2.50 instead of Rs.20. On a large delivery trade, the Rs.20 cap wins.

The rest of the fee stack matters too: stamp duty, GST, exchange transaction charges and SEBI turnover fees are added on top of the brokerage. A demo interface usually shows only the brokerage. A real contract note shows all of it.

Where Practice Meets Reality

India's regulatory picture limits what a domestic broker like Paytm Money can offer, and that shapes the practice options.

Paytm Money covers equity, F&O, mutual funds, ETFs, IPOs, NPS and bonds. It does not offer MCX commodity or currency derivatives. If the interest is in gold futures or USD/INR, this is not the platform to practice on. That is a scope limit, nothing more.

On the wider question of trading forex or CFDs through offshore brokers: SEBI and RBI permit Indian residents to trade INR-based currency pairs only, and only on recognised exchanges. Trading spot forex or CFDs with an offshore broker is outside that framework, and remitting money abroad for margin forex trading is not a permitted LRS purpose. When picking any platform, domestic or international, check its regulator, its client-fund segregation policy, and its published fee schedule before sending a rupee.

TIP
Two things mark out a platform worth practising on: a clear regulator with a real license number, and a fee page that lists every charge, not just the headline brokerage.

If a broker hides the second one, walk.

Registration is quick and the KYC step is where most delays happen. Keep these ready.

Funding is local and simple: UPI through PhonePe or Google Pay, or net-banking. The base currency is INR with no conversion step, which removes one layer of cost that offshore accounts carry. There is no verified minimum deposit at the time of our review, so starting small is possible.

One thing worth flagging: there are reports of app-support complaints, and the lack of a commodity or currency segment is a genuine limitation. Neither is fatal. Both are things worth knowing before relying on the platform for a specific strategy.

The One Line Verdict

For a simple, well-priced domestic app to learn equity and mutual fund investing, this one does the job. For a formal simulated account for forex or CFDs, a different solution is needed, and its regulation should be checked first.

Right pick for: First-time investors who want to learn the real app with small real money, hold mutual funds and ETFs alongside stocks, and pay flat fees with no annual platform charge. The learning curve is shallow, local payments are instant, and the research tools are enough to build a watchlist habit.

Wrong pick for: Anyone whose practice goal is forex, CFDs or commodity futures. Those are not available here. For that plan, look for a broker regulated by a tier-one authority such as the FCA, CySEC or ASIC, with segregated client funds and a published fee sheet. Compare two or three before deciding.

Questions

Can I practice F&O trading before putting real money in?

+

Not on this platform in a simulated way. An account can be opened, F&O order placement can be observed, and the minimum quantity the exchange permits can be traded. F&O brokerage is Rs.20 per order. Margin requirements matter here, since F&O positions can move against you faster than equity.

Is a demo account free, or does it cost something?

+

There is no demo product here, so nothing to charge for. A live account has zero platform or AMC fee as of January 2025. Live trades carry brokerage: Rs.20 flat or a percentage, whichever is lower.

Do I need KYC for a practice account?

+

Yes, to trade anything real. A PAN card, Aadhaar, recent address proof and bank proof are required. Approval usually comes through in 24 to 48 hours. There is no KYC-free route to a working account with any SEBI-regulated broker.

Which topics can I learn inside the app before trading?

+

Equity, mutual funds, ETFs, IPOs, NPS and bonds are all covered. Commodity and currency derivatives are not. If the interest sits in those two areas, plan around it and check what a regulated alternative offers instead.
